Adolfo Alberto Laborde Carranco

Dr. Adolfo Alberto Laborde Carranco is a Mexican scholar specializing in international economic relations in Asia-Pacific. He holds a Ph.D. in Political and Social Sciences (International Relations) from UNAM (2016), completed doctoral studies in International Cooperation at Kobe University, Japan (2000–2004), and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Arizona (2020). He has taught at UNAM (1996–present), Universidad Anáhuac (2017–present), Universidad Iberoamericana (2023), Tecnológico de Monterrey (2009–2017), Universidad de Quintana Roo (2005–2006), and Morton College in Chicago (2004). He has been a visiting professor at Fudan University (China), Universidad de Córdoba (Argentina), the University of Illinois at Chicago and DePaul University (U.S.), Universidad Central (Chile), Universidad del Pacífico (Peru), and the IDEAZ Institute (Austria).He is the author of 22 books, 26 peer-reviewed articles, and 10 book chapters; he has more than 18 years of experience as an international affairs analyst in the media and is a regular columnist for El Heraldo de México. In the public service, he served as Minister (Head Representative) of Mexico’s Ministry of Economy at the Embassy of Mexico in Japan (February 2021–May 2023) and as North America Ambassador for Fudan University (2020–2023). Since January 2024, he has been a research professor at CIDE’s Division of Development Studies and a Level I member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers (SECIHTI).He is a UNU-CRIS Associate Research Fellow since 2025, conducting research on transpacific relations in the Economic and Political Interactions Cluster and implementing the MoU between CIDE and UNU-CRIS.
