MENA Digital Governance Training with IsDB

UNU-EGOV and IsDB delivered a 5-day digital governance training for MENA region experts, covering transformation strategies and inclusion policies.

UNU-EGOV recently completed a 5-day capacity development training program for country experts from across the MENA region, in partnership with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). The training, which ran from June 29 to July 3, 2025, brought together government officials and digital governance specialists to develop their knowledge and skills in digital transformation practices.

Training Overview

The program covered critical aspects of modern digital governance through ten specialised modules. Participants studied digital governance fundamentals, data-driven decision-making processes, and methods for measuring digital transformation progress. The training also addressed essential legal and regulatory frameworks that support digital government initiatives.

A significant portion of the program focused on practical applications, including inclusive service design principles, new technologies in public services, and strategies for meaningful e-participation. Participants also reviewed digital justice and rights considerations, ensuring that digital transformation efforts prioritise citizen welfare and equitable access.

Strategic Partnership with IsDB

The collaboration with IsDB proved particularly valuable, as the training featured dedicated sessions on IsDB's & DCO's Strategies. IsDB & Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO) representatives presented insights on digital cooperation initiatives and multilateral partnership approaches. This strategic focus helped participants understand how regional development priorities align with national digital transformation goals.

Regional Focus and Impact

The final day focused on digital governance applications specific to sustainable development in the MENA region. Led by expert facilitators from UNU-EGOV, IsDB & DCO, participants reviewed how digital governance can support regional development objectives while addressing unique challenges faced by MENA countries.

The training concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Hussein Mogaibel, Manager of Economic Infrastructure Division at IsDB, and Ms. Delfina Soares, Director of UNU-EGOV, reinforcing the commitment to continued collaboration and knowledge sharing in the digital governance space.

This capacity development initiative represents UNU-EGOV's ongoing commitment to supporting digital transformation across the MENA region. Through partnerships with organisations like the IsDB, UNU-EGOV continues to provide country experts with the knowledge and tools necessary to implement effective digital governance strategies that serve their citizens and advance sustainable development goals.
