UNU-IAS and UNESCO will co-host a webinar on "Teaching for Action in the Digital Age: Empowering Educators to Lead Local Solutions to Global Challenges". The event is part of the ESD-Net 2030 Learning Webinars series which focuses on providing concrete and practical education for sustainable development (ESD) activities in line with the five priority action areas outlined in the ESD for 2030 Roadmap.

Regional Centers of Expertise on ESD (RCEs) will present implementation cases of action-oriented pedagogy (AOP) for ESD, which emphasizes learner agency and empowerment of students to be active participants in identifying and addressing the most pressing real-world issues. The cases will feature the key components of AOP for ESD:

  • Problem-Based and Real-World Issues

  • Community Engagement

  • Learner Participation

  • Collaboration

  • Empathy

  • Regional and Cultural Relevance

  • Interdisciplinarity

Hands-on learning sessions on AOP for ESD will be conducted by UNU-IAS experts.

Target Audience

The target audience of this learning webinar includes:

  • Education stakeholders seeking to strengthen the implementation of ESD in their learning environments: teachers, head teachers, community-based educators, teacher trainers, youth leaders, academics.

  • ESD-Net members comprised of: ESD focal points from UNESCO member states, partner organizations (i.e., international organizations, NGOs, universities, etc.)

Language

This event will be held in English, with French interpretation for some sessions.

Background

The Global RCE Network comprises of over 190 RCEs, each of which operates a local multi-stakeholder partnership on ESD. UNU-IAS serves as the secretariat (Global RCE Service Centre) of the network, as part of its work on innovation and education.
