The 2024 UN Biodiversity Conference (CBD COP16) was held in Cali, Colombia on 21 October – 1 November 2024. Building on the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), it convened delegates from across the world to address the ongoing biodiversity crisis.

The year’s conference concluded with the creation of a new benefit-sharing mechanism for genetic resources, and formal recognition of Indigenous Peoples and people of African descent as stewards of nature.

UNU-IAS contributed through a series of side events and research outputs, advancing discussions on inclusive and sustainable landscape management, and meaningful youth participation in the implementation of the GBF.
