Rina Miyake is a Programme Coordinator for the Biodiversity and Society programme. 

Prior to joining UNU, she worked at the Ministry of the Environment of Japan (MOEJ), where she engaged in various nature conservation projects, such as the management of national parks, the protection of endangered species and wildlife, and water quality management.

Most recently, she was involved in the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) to the Convention on Biological Diversity for more than 4 years. Her main responsibility was consulting on the necessity of revising present measures for domestic implementation, and international negotiations on the benefit-sharing from the use of Digital Sequence Information on Genetic Resources. She also has experience in tourism promotion focused on natural resources including national parks at the Japan Tourism Agency at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT).
