The UNU Global AI Network announces the publication of its 2025 Report, a comprehensive review of its inaugural year as a global platform dedicated to operationalizing the Global Digital Compact.
Since its launch in April 2024, UNU Global AI Network has grown to encompass 124 members from 36 countries. The report highlights the Network's distinct composition, with 72% of its members originating from the Global South, reflecting its foundational commitment to inclusive and representative dialogue on AI governance and innovation.
The Network has demonstrated that multi-stakeholder collaboration for the ethical and responsible use of AI is not only feasible but also an effective mechanism to reduce global inequalities in the AI landscape.
The report documents concrete progress across the Network's four established action tracks:
- AI Research: Contributions to the UNU-Springer book series on AI and Sustainable Development, and the successful co-organization of the Global Forum on Music, AI, and Health in Shanghai.
- AI Capacity Building & Training: The implementation of “Dialogues for Action” on AI for the public sector and nature, alongside the inauguration of the UNU Rector’s AI Lecture Series.
- AI Governance: Strategic workshops on inclusive governance frameworks and substantive contributions to the development of Cambodia’s National AI Strategy 2025–2030.
- AI Youth & Innovation: The co-organization of the “AI for SDGs — Global Youth AI Future Innovation Competition 2025,” which engaged youth from 47 countries.
Guided by the principles of the UNESCO Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, UNU Global AI Network serves as a key operational mechanism for implementing the objectives of the UN’s Global Digital Compact.
