The United Nations University Global Artificial Intelligence Network (UNU Global AI Network) was launched by the United Nations University (UNU) to materialize the Global Digital Compact

The UNU Global AI Network is a global platform that facilitates multi-stakeholder cooperation on AI to advance sustainable development. It is comprised of members of academic institutions, the private sector, international organizations, government institutions, and civil society organizations.

The Mission

The UNU Global AI Network seeks to enhance international cooperation among stakeholders to promote AI for an inclusive, responsible, and sustainable digital future for all. It also facilitates the inclusion of voices from the Global South in global discussions on AI.

The Network unites the expertise of academia, the innovation of the private sector, the foresight of policymakers, and the engagement of civil society to:

  • Share knowledge on AI that benefits society as a whole.
  • Conduct research on AI to advance its benefits for the people and planet today and in the future and to counter potential harms from AI. 
  • Co-create solutions to advance sustainable development for AI and with AI.
  • Promote evidence-based policymaking around AI and AI governance frameworks
  • Establish partnerships on AI capacity-building to develop education and training programmes.

 

The Principles 

Members of the UNU Global AI Network pledge to adhere to the values and principles set out in UNESCO’s Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence in their activities related to AI and the Network.

Membership in the UNU Global AI Network is free, but we encourage financial and in-kind contributions to support the network’s activities and ensure its sustainability.
