DESCRIPTION

This session focuses on the strategic role of the United Nations and multilateral organizations in bridging the technological divide. The "UN-AI Corridor" is conceptualized here as a diplomatic and technical channel that connects the advanced capabilities of the tech industry with the developmental needs of the Global Majority. As AI governance becomes a fragmented landscape of national regulations, this panel explores how the UN can serve as a neutral "bridge," facilitating technology transfer, capacity building, and ethical standard-setting.

The discussion will center on how multilateral frameworks can prevent a "tech cold war" and ensure that AI benefits are distributed globally. Key topics include the establishment of international standards for AI safety that do not stifle innovation in developing nations, and the creation of funding mechanisms for AI infrastructure in low-resource settings. The panel will likely examine the UN’s "Global Digital Compact" and similar initiatives, analyzing their effectiveness in giving the Global Majority a seat at the table. By enhancing the role of the Global Majority as a bridge rather than a bystander, this session aims to foster a multilateral approach to tech where diverse cultural perspectives shape the global AI architecture, ensuring it serves humanity as a whole rather than a select few.

This session is part of the UNU Macau AI Conference 2026.
