This side event of the 2025 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP30) in Belém, Brazil will spotlight climate-resilient practices, innovations and country experiences that advance sustainable food systems in alignment with the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA). Drawing on CGIAR’s Multifunctional Landscapes Science Program and partners, it will focus on achieving climate-resilient food and agricultural production, sustainable and regenerative supply systems, and equitable access to food and nutrition for all. The discussion will address key GGA indicators on the adoption of adaptation-relevant practices and technologies across agricultural areas and value chain actors, underscoring sustainable land use as a bridge between food security, climate action and biodiversity goals.

The session will emphasize locally led, nature-positive and agroecological approaches that build landscape resilience and empower women, youth, Indigenous Peoples and local communities as agents of change. Through examples of integrated systems, restoration initiatives and circular bioeconomy innovations, speakers will demonstrate how holistic monitoring frameworks and evidence-based policies can translate global adaptation goals into tangible local impacts. Ultimately, the event will provide policymakers with practical pathways to operationalize the GGA while leveraging synergies with the SDGs, the Global Biodiversity Framework and land degradation neutrality targets.
