Japanese Newspapers Feature Symposium on Noto Peninsula Recovery

Several local newspapers published articles on the event, which discussed reconstruction efforts and disaster prevention for resilient communities.

In March 2025, several Japanese newspapers published articles featuring a symposium on the reconstruction efforts on Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, following the 2024 Noto Earthquake.

Co-organized by UNU-IAS, the event brought together international experts and local leaders from the Noto region who shared insights on disaster recovery and prevention.

The articles emphasized the call made by speakers to leverage the traditional satoyama and satoumi landscapes in the reconstruction efforts.

Local media also reported on the field visit to areas affected by the 2024 earthquake and floods, including Wajima City and Suzu City, by Youssef Nassef, Director of the Adaptation Programme at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat.
