In this Science Talk, Michael Stanley-Jones, Environmental Policy and Governance Fellow at UNU-INWEH, and Claire Egehiza Obote, Graduate Student in Sustainable Development at University West, examine how learner-centred e-learning can advance environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and poverty reduction.
Drawing on Poverty-Environment Action for Sustainable Development Goals, a joint initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the speakers will explore the development of an interactive multimedia platform offering continuous learning opportunities for poverty-environment practitioners. The platform features two e-learning courses—Introduction to Sustainable Development in Practice and Advancing Sustainable Development in Practice—which can be adapted into curriculum modules or used as teaching resources.
The talk will highlight how the Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, and Evaluate (ADDIE) model was applied to distance learning. By connecting integrated thinking with the real-world application of the Sustainable Development Goals, these courses helped stimulate poverty-environment action in communities beyond the reach of conventional capacity-building programmes.
