Nikkei Shimbun Highlights UNU-IAS Contributions to Noto Peninsula Recovery

An article discusses multi-stakeholder efforts to rebuild and revitalize local communities in the aftermath of the 2024 Noto Earthquake.

On 31 October 2025, Nikkei Shimbun published an article on post disaster recovery and revitalization of Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, following the 2024 Noto Earthquake. It features industry and academia leaders sharing their perspectives and recommendations at the Nikkei Regional Revitalization Forum held on 20 September 2025 in Kanazawa City.  

Tsunao Watanabe (Visiting Research Fellow) provided comments on the importance of cooperation between the local community and the government, as well as the inclusion of youth. He also highlighted the contributions of the UNU-IAS Operating Unit Ishikawa/Kanazawa (UNU-IAS OUIK), which provided scientific expertise on the utilization of Noto's satoyama and satoumi resources, and organized two symposiums on how to best support the recovery efforts.
