The 2023 UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) convened in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from 30 November to 13 December. It concluded with a historic call to transition away from fossil fuels, and commitments to triple renewables capacity and double energy efficiency by 2030. It also made progress on adaptation and finance, including the loss and damage fund.
UNU-IAS provided science-based inputs through side events, policy dialogue and media commentary — advancing discussion on critical topics such as just transition, climate–SDG synergies and the rights of people displaced by climate change.
