The project focuses on developing a city profile, a general vision and a shortlist of projects to promote urban development and resilience under the African Cities Program of the African Development Bank.
Key components include an institutional capacity assessment and a sectoral evaluation of the city’s risks. Through fieldwork, interviews and desk research, the project identifies the interconnections between Beira’s main challenges, while also documenting existing resilience practices and exploring alternatives to ensure the city’s long-term safety and sustainability. The project is being carried out with engagement from the municipal council, government agencies, the private sector, and both international and local organizations, fostering broad ownership. The outcomes will guide future investments and support Beira’s urban resilience agenda.
