Joana Carvalho is a Senior Research Assistant at the United Nations University (UNU-EGOV) since 2018.
Her research expertise is mostly directed at e-gov measurement and monitoring, e-participation and community empowerment.
Joana’s work and research experience are closely associated with the local government level, focusing on measuring, assessing, and monitoring e-gov initiatives. She has been involved in developing and implementing an instrument for health sector and municipalities website assessment. She has also collaborated on research projects for digital inclusion and gender mainstreaming. More recently, she has been more involved with social innovation research and e-participation for community empowerment.
Joana currently holds a position as an invited assistant professor in the Department of Information Systems at the University of Minho, teaching undergraduate and graduate students of Engineering and Management of Information Systems.
In her research career, Joana has been involved in conferences, programme committees and peer review processes. She has participated in several events as an author, presenting and disseminating the work she is involved with.
Joana is a Ph.D. student in Information Systems and Technology at the University of Minho, focusing on government information networks for the social sector. A graduate in Informatics Engineering, Joana Carvalho holds a master’s degree in Engineering and Management of Information Systems, both from the University of Minho.
