Land is more than soil and vegetation. For Indigenous Peoples and local communities, land is a living foundation of health, culture, biodiversity, livelihoods and knowledge.
Traditional and Indigenous medicinal systems have evolved through generations of close relationships with local ecosystems, particularly through the cultivation, protection and sustainable use of medicinal plants.
Today, land degradation, biodiversity loss and climate change are threatening not only ecosystems, but also medicinal species, cultural practices and traditional knowledge systems connected to them.
