René Belderbos is full professor of Strategy at KU Leuven (Belgium) and part-time professor of International Corporate Strategy at Maastricht University and UNU-MERIT (The Netherlands). He received a doctoral degree in economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam. His research focuses on innovation strategies and international business strategies of multinational firms, including real option theory in international business, location strategies, global knowledge sourcing, top management teams and internationalization, R&D collaboration, intellectual property rights and innovation, and knowledge spillovers. He has published widely in economics and management journals such as the Strategic Management Journal, European Economic Review, Review of Economics and Statistics, International Journal of Industrial Organization, Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Product Innovation Management, Research Policy, World Development, the Journal of International Business Studies, Global Strategy Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Regional Studies, and Environment and Planning, among others. His work has received more than 12000 citations and he is on the Stanford University list of most cited scholars in the business and economics domain. He is an associate editor of the Global Strategy Journal, an editorial board member of the Strategic Management Journal and has served as consulting editor to the Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS). He has been consultant to the European Commission, the OECD, the Flemish, Belgian and Dutch governments, and the National Institute of Science and Technology Policy (NISTEP, Japan).
