Tsunakan Journal Highlights Best Practices for Just Transition

The publication featured an article by UNU-IAS experts on ensuring a just transition to carbon neutrality in developing countries in Asia-Pacific.

In March 2024 the Global Environmental Outreach Centre (GEOC) released a new issue of Tsunakan (Vol. 43), a journal focusing on global partnerships for the environment. GEOC is a joint initiative of UNU-IAS and the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, which supports activities in various social sectors towards sustainability within and beyond Japan.

The “Global View” section of the publication featured an article by UNU-IAS experts Upalat Korwatanasakul (Consultant), Mahesti Okitasari (Consultant), Akio Takemoto (Head of Programme and Administration) and Mei Maruyama (Programme Coordinator). Titled “Achieving Just Transition in Developing Countries in the Asia-Pacific Region”, the article discusses case studies of inclusive energy transition in Asia-Pacific. It is based on the findings of a 2023 UNU-IAS policy brief “Leaving No One Behind in Carbon Neutrality Strategies: Insights from Developing Countries in Asia and the Pacific”.
