Tsunakan Journal Examines Ways to Strengthen SDG Finances

The “Global View” section of the publication featured an article by UNU-IAS experts on aligning the SDGs with national budget systems.

In October 2023 the Global Environmental Outreach Centre (GEOC) released a new issue of Tsunakan (Vol. 42), a journal focusing on global partnerships for the environment. GEOC is a joint initiative of UNU-IAS and the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, which supports activities in various social sectors towards sustainability within and beyond Japan.

The “Global View” section of the publication featured an article by UNU-IAS experts Mahesti Okitasari (Consultant), Akio Takemoto (Head of Programme and Administration), and Mei Maruyama (Programme Coordinator). Titled “Delivering SDG Commitments: How Can We Strengthen SDG Finances?”, the article discusses case studies on the alignment of SDGs with national budget systems. It is based on the findings of a 2022 UNU-IAS policy brief “Budgeting for the SDGs: Lessons from the 2021 Voluntary National Reviews”.

The full article is available in Japanese.
