To commemorate the International Day for Biodiversity, UNU-IAS Operating Unit Ishikawa/Kanazawa will organize an event exploring how forest management can support local livelihoods and occupations, contribute to biodiversity recovery, and advance an approach that balances conservation with sustainable use. Discussion will focus on the forests and satoyama sites in the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan, which suffered significant damage due to earthquakes and heavy rainfall in 2024. Participation & Registration

The event is open to the public and will take place at the Noto Satoyama Airport in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan (Terminal Building 4F, Conference Room A). Please register in advance to attend in person or online

This event will be organized by UNU-IAS OUIK and co-organized by Ishikawa Prefecture, Noto GIAHS Promotion Council and Noto GIAHS Biodiversity Working Group, with support by Chunichi Shimbun Co. Ltd., and Hokkoku Shimbun Inc. (TBC).
