This project harnesses the transformative potential of the Lusatian region by exploring innovative approaches to local food production - namely, through vertical farming. Community engagement is crucial to the implementation of the research; this is achieved by connecting with the residents of Weißwasser to test vertical farming methods. These local collaborators will include a school, a senior living facility, and a company. Each institution shall 'adopt' a vertical farming tower for a season, during which they will grow their own vegetables while learning about sustainable urban agriculture.

Throughout the project, participants will attend workshops and seminars with the purpose of fostering intergenerational dialogue and community partnerships. These sessions will cover topics such sustainable city planning, the broader transformation of Lusatia, and the integration of innovative agricultural practices into the region's economic and environmental strategies. The project shall culminate with a final event featuring an exhibition and community discussions regarding the future of local food production in Weißwasser, and whether Vertical Farming can contribute to a sustainable and vibrant regional economy.

The project is funded by the Saxon Ministry of Regional Development.
