Juliane Dziumla has been a member of UNU Resource Nexus since 2018. Her research focuses on sustainability assessment, sustainable technologies and pathways to sustainable development, including scenario planning and sustainability-oriented decision-making.
As a Researcher in the REC² Cluster (Responsible Electronics in the Climate Change Era), Juliane focuses on the sustainability assessment of sustainable electronics and technologies. Her research expertise includes sustainability assessment, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), scenario planning for sustainable development, and sustainability-oriented decision-making.
At UNU-FLORES, Juliane previously worked as an Associate Sustainability and Impact Officer, where she helped advance and institutionalise sustainability across the institute. She was a co-founder of the UNU Resource Nexus Green Committee and contributed to the co-development and implementation of the UN Sustainability Strategy, while initiating and coordinating a range of sustainability activities at the institute. Since 2019, UNU Resource Nexus has maintained carbon neutrality.
Juliane led a UNEP funded project on Sustainable Infrastructure in Chile (SI-Chile), working with a wide range of stakeholders on sustainable development and its regional implementation. Prior to joining UNU Resource Nexus, she worked in the Business Development department of the recycling company TerraCycle, where she developed business proposals for new recycling solutions.
Juliane conducts her doctoral research at TU Dresden and UNU Resource Nexus on the sustainability assessment of Vertical Farming from a Resource Nexus perspective. Her research explores the environmental, economic, social, spatial and temporal dimensions of vertical farming and its potential contribution to sustainable food systems and the Sustainable Development Goals.
