Resilience Starts at Home: A Collaborative Dialogue on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)

Nidhi Nagabhatla, Coordinator of the Nature, Climate and Health Cluster, is participating in this webinar marking the International Day for DRR 2026.

The webinar marking the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) 2026, scheduled for 3:00 p.m. IST, brings together representatives from academic institutions, research organisations, and disaster-management bodies under the theme “Resilience Starts at Home.”  As a collaborative platform for sharing expertise and encouraging dialogue on disaster preparedness and resilience.
The participating agencies and experts offer an opportunity to connect research, policy, and practice. Their contributions can help advance discussion on how safer homes, informed communities, resilient infrastructure, and coordinated institutions can support more proactive disaster-risk governance.

For UNU-CRIS, Nidhi Nagabhatla’s participation provides an opportunity to contribute perspectives from the Nature, Climate and Health Programme, connecting disaster resilience with climate adaptation, environmental governance, health protection, and community well-being. Her proposed contribution can emphasise the importance of moving beyond reactive responses towards integrated, evidence-informed approaches to preparedness, planning, and prevention.

The discussion will  also highlight the value of collaboration among government, academia, practitioners, and communities—recognising that resilience begins at home but depends on the wider systems that support people before, during, and after disasters.
