From 23 June to 9 July it is time for the Online Summer School for Disaster Risk Professionals in Africa. It offers a unique opportunity for disaster risk professionals in Africa to enhance their expertise and expand their networks. Participants will strengthen their professional capacities through advanced knowledge and practical skills in disaster risk reduction (DRR), equipping them to respond more effectively to evolving climate and disaster risks.
Beyond technical training, the programme offers the opportunity for meaningful knowledge exchange across borders. It brings together professionals, researchers and policymakers from across the continent to share insights, challenges and innovative solutions in DRR to help build a stronger and more connected community of practice.
A core component of the curriculum is the integration of technology into risk management. Participants will gain hands-on exposure to digital tools, remote sensing techniques, early warning systems and data analytics that are essential components of modern DRR strategies.
The programme also emphasizes the critical link between science, policy and practice. It supports participants in translating research into action and aligning community-based approaches with policy frameworks. Furthermore, the summer school promotes inclusive participation, with emphasis on the vital roles of Indigenous knowledge systems, women and youth in building resilient communities.
