Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy and Policy Instruments for the SDGs

From 3 to 7 November 2025, the UN Inter-Agency Task Team (IATT) will host an online training workshop for Latin America on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy and Policy Instruments for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

UNU-MERIT is an active member of the IATT Workstream 6 (WS6) on Capacity Building in Science, Technology and Innovation for the SDGs, established in 2017 to strengthen capacities for designing and implementing STI policies in developing countries.

This training initiative is a joint effort of several UN agencies — UNCTAD, UNESCO, UNIDO, UNU-MERIT, and ECLAC. It is primarily aimed at public-sector professionals and policymakers working in STI-related areas, particularly those new to policymaking or seeking to refresh their knowledge. Participants from academia, the private sector, and civil society are also welcome.

UNU-MERIT experts Prof. Carlo Pietrobelli, Prof. Ludo Alcorta, and Dr. Tommaso Ciarli will contribute to the sessions. The training consists of five two-hour sessions over five consecutive days, taught in Spanish. Each session combines a core presentation with case studies and interactive group discussions, fostering peer learning and exchange.

Space is limited — please register early. Participants who attend at least 80% of the sessions will receive a certificate of attendance.
