Victor Arribas Martínez is an economist, Stream Leader for Diversity and Transformation at the European Patent Office’s (EPO) Observatory on Patents and Technology. Alongside his work at EPO, he is a dual-career PhD fellow at UNU-MERIT.
At the EPO Victor leads research and outreach activities focused on universities, public research organisations, start-ups and technology transfer. His work examines gaps in Europe’s innovation ecosystem, including barriers to translating research into marketable technologies and disparities in participation across gender, age groups, institution types and regions.
As part of his role at the Observatory, Victor conducts economic studies, contributes to the development of data tools, and participates in events and outreach initiatives for start-ups, universities, policymakers and investors.
Victor holds a Master of Science in European Economic Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges, where his thesis explored AI-related patent applications. He holds a dual bachelor’s degree from Sciences Po Paris and University College London, as well as a Master of Research in Economics from UNED. Before joining the EPO, he gained research experience at INSEAD, focusing on entrepreneurship.
