Praachi Kumar is a Researcher on Development Economics at UNU-MERIT and Maastricht University School of Business and Economics

Digital technology adoption is at the forefront of Praachi's research, and she is interested in how it influences the economy and society, particularly the most marginalised groups. In her PhD thesis, she employs quantitative and computational approaches to unearth the impact of new-media technologies on gender norms and child rights in the global south. In addition to her PhD, Praachi's expertise on emerging technology, gender, and child rights guides her research agenda and she has served as a key researcher on related projects. She enjoys collaborating with students and professionals alike on capacity development activities and has taught in several courses across UNU-MERIT's programmes. Science communication is a vital component of Praachi's research efforts, and she is often invited to participate as a speaker or panellist on topics related to her research. Praachi's commitment towards research on child rights is backed by over 8 years of experience managing research and advocacy projects. Starting with strategic political polling and custom research, Praachi’s focus shifted towards development since completing an MSc. in Public Policy and Human Development in 2016. She received a Bachelor's degree in Economics (with honours) from Miranda House.
