UNU Macau Summer Training Programme 2026 Concludes Successfully

Four-day programme brings students from HUST together to explore AI, digital technologies, the UN, and sustainable development.

The UNU Macau Summer Training Programme 2026 came to a successful close on 20 August, concluding a four-day programme that brought together 25 students from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) to explore artificial intelligence, digital technologies, the United Nations, and sustainable development.

Over the course of the training, students took part in lectures, discussions, and hands-on activities examining the opportunities and challenges associated with AI. The programme connected technological developments with broader social, political, and sustainable development contexts, while encouraging students to consider how AI can be understood and applied responsibly.

Students explored a range of themes, including AI, Ideologies, and Socio-Political Contexts: The Myth of Neutrality, AI & Disaster Risk Reduction and DR Management, and AI Tools and Applications for Academic and Professional Practice. The sessions introduced students to the social and political dimensions of AI, applications of AI in disaster risk reduction, and practical approaches to using AI tools in academic and professional settings.

The programme also included Discussion Panels on Being UNU Fellows, providing students with an opportunity to hear from UNU Fellows about their research areas and experiences. Through these exchanges, students gained perspectives on research and professional pathways within the UN System.

A Workshop on Developing AI for Good Project Proposals brought students together to develop and present ideas applying AI to real-world challenges. The activity allowed them to connect the concepts discussed throughout the training with practical applications of AI for Good.
