The United Nations University Institute in Macau (UNU Macau) welcomed a delegation from the Communication University of China (CUC) to explore new opportunities for collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI), digital technologies, communication and their societal impacts. The visit highlighted shared goals in advancing research and education in media and communication.
CUC, one of China’s leading universities in media and communication studies, presented its strengths in journalism, cinema, digital media design, and communication technologies. The delegation, led by Prof. Jia Xiuqing, discussed joint initiatives, including student exchange programs, training opportunities, and international internships to foster deeper collaboration between the institutions.
UNU Macau shared its mission of leveraging technology for social innovation, showcasing its research on information literacy, synthetic data policy briefs, and AI applications for societal development. The institute emphasized the potential for collaboration on projects such as ethical AI practices, and communications innovation. There is strong synergy between UNU Macau’s expertise in technology and CUC’s leadership in media and communication education, pointed out UNU Macau Director Dr. Jingbo Huang.
The discussion also explored establishing measures of long term joint initiatives, which include education, training and events, designed to bring together researchers, educators, and students from both institutions.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides expressing enthusiasm for future collaborations. By combining their expertise, UNU Macau and CUC aim to make meaningful contributions to media and digital technology research and education.
