DESCRIPTION

Theory and policy are important, but practical application is where the impact is felt. This panel is dedicated to showcasing concrete "Use Cases" of AI implementation from the Global Majority. It moves the conversation away from Western-centric anxieties about AI taking jobs, to Global Majority realities where AI is being used to solve immediate, critical challenges. The session highlights innovation born out of necessity.

Topics will likely include AI applications in agriculture (predicting crop yields in Africa), healthcare (diagnostic tools in rural India), and education (localized language tutors in Latin America). By presenting these case studies, the panel aims to demonstrate that the Global Majority is not waiting for permission to innovate. It will discuss the specific constraints these projects faced—such as data scarcity or hardware limitations—and how they were overcome. This session serves as an inspiration and a repository of best practices, proving that AI can be a powerful lever for sustainable development when applied with local context and community involvement. It challenges the narrative that AI is only for the wealthy.

This session is part of the UNU Macau AI Conference 2026.
