DESCRIPTION
This panel marks a technical and conceptual shift in how we view AI integration. We are moving from "Human-in-the-Loop" (where humans oversee AI) to "Agentic AI in the Loop," where AI acts as a semi-autonomous partner. This session explores the transition from AI as a passive tool (like a calculator) to AI as an active agent (like a research assistant that browses the web, synthesizes data, and drafts reports). The focus is on "Shared Capacity"—the idea that the combined output of Human + AI Agent is greater than the sum of its parts.
The panel will discuss the design of these systems. How do we build interfaces that allow humans to delegate tasks to agents effectively while maintaining oversight? It will cover the concept of "meaningful human control," ensuring that even as agents become more autonomous, the human user retains the final say on critical decisions. The session will showcase examples of Agentic AI in educational or professional workflows, demonstrating how this shared capacity can amplify human potential. However, it will also warn of the risks of "automation bias," where humans blindly trust the agent, and propose strategies for keeping the human mind engaged and critical.
This session is part of the UNU Macau AI Conference 2026.
