Dr. Vishwas Chitale specialises in climate change adaptation and resilience in the Global South.

His expertise encompasses climate change vulnerability and risk assessments, as well as adaptation actions prioritization across various geographic scales and sectors within South Asia. He has experience in the analysis of extreme events, implementation of nature-based solutions, and climate-proofing of critical infrastructure. 
At UNU-INWEH his research focuses on climate-resilient agriculture and ecosystem services. He is developing a framework for the evaluation of adaption strategies for rainfed agriculture in India and other countries in South Asia, with a special focus on gender and social inclusion. 
In addition to his work at UNU-INWEH, Dr. Vishwas leads the Climate Resilience team at the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), a leading non-profit public policy institution in New Delhi, India. His recent projects at CEEW involved crafting strategies and plans for sub-national climate action and disaster risk reduction across India. Dr. Vishwas received his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, with a dissertation on assessing climate change impacts on biodiversity hotspots in India.
