UNU-IAS leads the implementation of the JSPS Kaken-hi Kiban-B research project entitled “Analysis of Legal and Policy Frameworks for International Support and Reparations for Countries Vulnerable to the Impacts of Climate Change” (FY2026-2029). This project is joined by Kyoto University, Keio University, the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation (SPF).

As climate impacts intensify, the urgency of international support for vulnerable countries to address adaptation and loss and damage are increasing. At the same time, issues of climate change reparations is receiving growing attention. This study examines the legal issues surrounding international support and reparations for vulnerable countries to climate change.
