Revitalizing Agriculture, Biodiversity, Traditional Culture on Noto Peninsula

EIC published an article on regional efforts to revitalize Noto Peninsula’s agriculture, biodiversity and traditional culture.

On 5 September 2023, Environmental Information Center (EIC), the media department of Taiwan Environmental Information Association (TEIA), published an article focusing on regional efforts to revitalize the Noto Peninsula's agriculture, biodiversity and traditional culture. It discusses these issues amid the challenges posed by the aging of the population and the exodus of young people.

The article features comments from UNU-IAS expert Sayako Koyama (Research Associate). It highlights the close connection of Noto residents to the forest and the sea and introduces efforts by the Noto GIAHS (Globally Important Agricultural Heritage Systems) Biodiversity Working Group to raise local youth’s awareness about biodiversity. The article also explores ongoing activities conducted by the UNU-IAS Operating Unit Ishikawa/Kanazawa (OUIK) to communicate the value of Noto’s Satoyama and Satoumi (GIAHS) to children and the selection of areas as candidate sites for the release of crested ibis.

The full article is available in Mandarin on Environmental Information Center website.
