Local Newspapers Feature UNU Rector Visit to Ishikawa Prefecture

Several articles in local Japanese media featured a visit to Ishikawa Prefecture by UNU Rector Tshilidzi Marwala.

On 22-23 August 2024, several local Japanese media featured a visit to Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan by Tshilidzi Marwala (UNU Rector and Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations). Prof. Marwala travelled to Ishikawa to give a keynote address at the 40th UNU Global Seminar held on the theme “Towards a Sustainable Planet and Society: Learning Resilience and Innovation from Noto, Kanazawa and Hakusan”.  

Prof. Marwala met with Mr. Hiroshi Hase (Governor, Ishikawa Prefecture) and discussed sustainable recovery from the 2024 Noto Earthquake, highlighting efforts by UNU-IAS Operating Unit in Ishikawa/Kanazawa (OUIK) toward reconstruction, as well as in promoting cultural biodiversity of satoyama and satoumi sites in Noto Peninsula.  

Prof. Marwala also met with Mr. Takashi Murayama (Mayor, Kanazawa City). He was accompanied by Shinobu Yume Yamaguchi (Director, UNU-IAS) and Tsunao Watanabe (Director, UNU-IAS OUIK).
