The 11th Japan Youth Environmental Activity Contest was featured in a special print edition of The Yomiuri SDGs Shimbun (March 2026). This eight-page article highlights innovative solutions for environmental issues developed by high school students across Japan. The contest aims to empower the next generation of sustainability leaders and is co-organized by UNU-IAS, the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and the Environmental Restoration and Conservation Agency of Japan.
This year a group of students from the SDGs Lab Team at Toyo University Ushiku Senior High School received the UNU-IAS Director’s Award. Their innovative initiative transforms soybean products from a local speciality into space food and disaster emergency food. The article in the Yomiuri SDGs Shimbun includes comments by Shinobu Yume Yamaguchi (Director, UNU-IAS).
