The Nineth Japan Youth Environmental Activity Contest was featured in special print editions of the Yomiuri SDGs Newspaper (March 2024) and Chukosei Newspaper (March 2024). The contest aims to empower youth from across Japan to lead the way towards a sustainable society, and is co-organised by UNU-IAS, the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, and the Environmental Restoration and Conservation Agency of Japan every year. A group of students from Nakui Agricultural High School in Aomori Prefecture (the “Flora Hunters” team) received the UNU-IAS Director’s Award for presenting their initiative focused on reducing water use in agriculture. The article in the Yomiuri Shimbun included comments by Shinobu Yume Yamaguchi (Director, UNU-IAS).
