SDGs Café — High School Students’ Insights from COP30

This SDGs Café event will examine youth engagement in climate governance, highlighting insights from high school students who attended COP30 through a youth empowerment programme implemented by UNU-IAS Operating Unit Ishikawa/Kanazawa (UNU-IAS OUIK)  Sunwoo Kang of the Global Environment Outreach Centre (GEOC) will provide an overview of the COP framework and current international trends in youth participation, followed by reflections from two students from Kanazawa on their experiences and perspectives. Topics will include:

  • What is COP (Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change), its purpose, roles and related youth activities.
  • Why is it difficult for young people’s voices to be reflected in decision‑making?
  • What kinds of youth participation mechanisms exist in other countries?
  • How can youth participation be expanded from the local context of Kanazawa?
