FISH BOY - Sakana-kun Appointed UNU-IAS Visiting Research Fellow

UNU-IAS and the popular science communicator will collaborate on sustainable recovery on the Noto Peninsula of Japan and environmental education.

UNU-IAS is pleased to announce that FISH BOY - Sakana-kun has been appointed as a Visiting Research Fellow. Through his extensive knowledge of fish and many years of educational and outreach activities, he has helped countless people understand the importance of aquatic life and the natural environment in both marine and freshwater ecosystems. In this role he will contribute his knowledge and experience to initiatives by the UNU-IAS Operating Unit Ishikawa / Kanazawa (OUIK) focused on sustainable recovery of the Noto Peninsula in Japan — as well as to research, education, and outreach activities related to biodiversity, satoyama and satoumi landscapes, and environmental education.

In addition, he will help to create learning opportunities for children and young people and engage in activities that foster understanding of the connections between nature and local communities through marine and freshwater life. These efforts aim to help raise awareness of OUIK activities and promote the natural and cultural richness of the Noto region to a wider audience.

Through this collaboration, UNU-IAS and FISH BOY - Sakana-kun will advance the sustainable recovery of the Noto Peninsula, promote community development in harmony with nature and foster the next generation of sustainability leaders.
