Demetrios Sarantis is a Senior Research Analyst at the United Nations University (UNU-EGOV) since 2017.
His expertise lies in local e-government, e-government assessment, e-health assessment, e-government project management, emerging technologies in public administration, e-participation, information systems interoperability and smart cities.
Demetrios is actively engaged in several projects, including designing and applying assessment methodologies in e-Government and e-Health. He contributes significantly to research efforts related to assessing government portals at a global level based on the Local Online Service Index methodology (LOSI network) in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA). He is involved in capacity development activities in ICT-enabled Governance.
In his career, Demetrios has collaborated with different organisations, namely the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), co-designing and applying Local Online Service Index (LOSI) methodology; the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), for the development of a Massive Open Online Course on Media Literacy for Government Officials and Policy-makers; the European Commission, taking part in a consortium led by the University of the Aegean to Scientific Foundations Training and Entrepreneurship Activities in the Domain of ICT-enabled Governance (Gov 3.0) project, and; with Digital Government Authority (Saudi Arabia) to their digital transformation improvement programme.
Demetrios co-leads the LOSI Network group dedicated to Local Online Service Index Methodology design and application with UNDESA. Demetrios is a member of the editorial board of the Frontiers in Public Health journal, in the speciality section Digital Public Health, and serves in several Steering and Programme Committees of international research initiatives.
Demetrios Sarantis holds a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, an MSc in Operational Research and Information Systems from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a BEng in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens.
