Mariana Lameiras, Senior Research Analyst at UNU-EGOV, led a workshop at the international conference “Making a Difference: Societal Impact through Collaborative Research” in Utrecht, The Netherlands. It was organized by the University of Utrecht’s Data School and explored how academic research influences societal change. The conference ran from 7 to 8 April.
The workshop titled “Bridging Research and Practice: The Role of Multiple-Stakeholder Workshops for Evidence-based Policy”, was co-developed by Lameiras alongside researchers Noella Edelmann and Lucille Tetley-Brown. It examined how participatory workshops serve as valuable tools for collecting evidence that informs inclusive and practical policymaking. The attendees had backgrounds from both academia and public service.
The workshop aligns with UNU-EGOV’s mission to bring research closer to the people it serves, by supporting policymakers to co-create solutions based on "real-world" topics.
The initiative is part of the unit's to build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions (SDG 16) through research that blends participation, policy innovation and public sector transformation.
