Next Course: “Reverse Genetics of Viruses & Applications in Virotherapy and Vaccine Development”, May 2026

Apply for a scholarship to participate in the international course coordinated by Dr. Pilar Moreno at the Institut Pasteur Montevideo, Uruguay

Discover the power of viral engineering in this immersive six‑day training experience designed for the next generation of researchers in Latin America. Hosted at the Institut Pasteur Montevideo, this course brings together leading regional and international virologists to guide participants through the fascinating world of reverse genetics and its transformative applications.
Throughout the program, attendees will explore how infectious viral clones are designed, engineered, and applied to cutting‑edge fields such as oncolytic virotherapy and innovative vaccine platforms. Mornings will feature high‑level lectures covering viral genome manipulation, mutagenesis strategies, structural virology, and the development of viral and mRNA‑based vaccines. Afternoons will shift into intensive laboratory sessions where participants gain hands‑on experience assembling and validating viral genomes, performing infection assays, evaluating cytopathic effects, and quantifying viral replication. An introduction to in vivo experimental design will round out the practical training.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to design and manipulate viral infectious clones, apply reverse genetics approaches to answer scientific questions, evaluate oncolytic viral activity, and conceptualize vaccines and other viral‑based biotechnological tools.
This training is ideal for MSc and PhD students, as well as early‑career researchers in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Medicine, and Veterinary Sciences who wish to deepen their expertise in virology, viral engineering, and biotechnology. Whether you are beginning your journey with infectious clones or looking to expand your research into therapeutic applications, this course offers a unique opportunity to learn directly from active experts and build collaborative networks across the region.
Join us in Montevideo for a week of discovery, experimentation, and scientific growth—where viruses become tools, and ideas turn into innovation.
