Rapid changes and advances in the biotechnology field demand continuous updates of knowledge and skills. The shortage of material resources, the high costs of biotechnology equipment, and insufficient connections between the numerous disciplines that are part of biotechnological research, are all potential limitations for capacity development training programmes.
UNU-BIOLAC targets these limitations through support for fellowships and training courses that focus on two of the most pressing issues in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) — a lack of human resources with advanced competencies, and the isolation of important LAC research groups from the international scientific community.
