In this hybrid research seminar on Thursday 20th February 2025 at 12:00-13:00 CET, Sunil Mani -from the Centre for Development Studies in India. - will present his research titled "State and it's technological solution to Climate Change in India: Electric Vehicle Manufacturing in India".
Abstract:
This paper explores the pivotal role of government interventions in shaping India's burgeoning Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturing industry. It delves into the structure of India's EV sector, evaluates central and state-level policies that promote EV adoption,
and benchmarks India's progress against global counterparts. The study identifies key constraints hindering EV diffusion and examines technological advancements propelling the industry, with a focus on five major electric car technologies. Additionally, it
assesses domestic technology generation efforts through an analysis of patents granted to Indian inventors in these areas. By providing a comprehensive overview of India's EV landscape, encompassing policy frameworks, technological innovations, and challenges,
the paper offers insights into the strategic importance of government initiatives in accelerating the growth of the EV industry. This research contributes to understanding India's potential role in the global shift towards sustainable transportation, highlighting
the interplay between policy, technology, and market forces in shaping the future of electric mobility in the world's third-largest automotive market.
