Researcher

Šimon Trlifaj is a postdoctoral researcher at UNU-MERIT

He works on the Horizon PACT project ("Learning from Past And Current Transitions: A new PACT for fair and resilient European regions"). PACT looks at how past industrial transitions, such as coal and steel decline and automation, shape regions' readiness for today's green and digital transitions. It also builds tools to help policymakers design fairer transition pathways. That includes a history-friendly agent-based model and a regional diversification and investment intelligence tool.

Šimon earned a PhD in Political Science - Public Policy at Central European University (CEU) in Vienna. He has experience using novel large data sources in empirical analyses of innovation policy, including product databases, job vacancies, audience reviews, and consumer purchases. His research focuses on secrecy and information frictions, the direction of innovation, and innovation in peripheral regions. He previously worked as an economist analyst at the European Commission and was a Fulbright Scholar at Cornell University.
