Lalaine Siruno is a Researcher at Maastricht University and UNU-MERIT.

Dr. Lalaine Siruno is a researcher at UNU-MERIT and Maastricht University, and coordinator of the Maastricht Centre for Citizenship, Migration and Development (MACIMIDE). She works primarily on the issue of (irregular) migration and human development, as well as fair and ethical recruitment in the context of labour migration. Since 2022, she has also been actively involved in the Horizon Europe MIrreM (Measuring Irregular Migration and Related Policies) Project. She has published several articles in academic journals on the various strategies deployed by irregular migrants to address the systematic exclusion imposed by their migration status. She has also done projects and co-authored reports for international organisations like IOM and ILO. Apart from doing research, she teaches, supervises, and mentors students in the MPP programme (Master's in Public Policy and Human Development) at UNU-MERIT. She also trains government officials and other migration practitioners from around the world as part of the Institute's various capacity development programmes.
