The UNU Digital Technology and Sustainable Development Talent Program Winter Camp was launched on January 20, 2025, at the United Nations University Institute in Macau. The camp ran from January 20 to 24, offering participants an immersive and enriching experience.
Themed "Technology and Sustainability in the Age of AI," the camp saw 36 participants from many different universities, coming together for an intensive week of learning and collaboration.
During the week-long in-person sessions, participants engaged in in-depth study and research on the Sustainable Development Goals and digital technology. They explored the fundamental principles of artificial intelligence, its practical applications, and its potential to address global challenges and advance the SDGs. The program provided them with a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with peers and to visit local organizations in Macau, enhancing their professional skills for international organizations and broadening their global perspectives.
In the presentation phase, participants showcased their learning outcomes. Working in groups, they contributed their insights on how to better utilize AI tools to achieve the SDGs, exploring the practical application of AI in various UN agencies and how AI could assist government bodies and international organizations in promoting human welfare more effectively.
At the closing ceremony, Dr. Serge Stinckwich, Head of Research at UNU Macau, presented certificates to the participants and encouraged them to continue pursuing their goals and contributing to the SDGs through technology and their professional skills in the future.
Our program provided participants with the opportunity to work closely with UN agencies, equipping them with a global perspective and a commitment to the SDGs. This training was not just an academic event; it was a platform that enabled students to recognize their connection to the sustainable development goals. We aim to cultivate the next generation of leaders in digital technology and sustainable development, empowering more young people to tackle the pressing challenges of our time.
