The United Nations University Institute in Macau (UNU Macau) and the Blue Institute, Seychelles have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration at the intersection of digital technologies, ocean and coastal issues, and sustainable development.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of the United Nations University and UN Under-Secretary-General, and H.E. Mr. Nico Barito, Special Envoy of the President of Seychelles for ASEAN and Founder of the Blue Institute.
The collaboration will focus on joint research, training, workshops, and knowledge exchange, bringing together UNU Macau’s expertise in digital technologies for sustainable development and the Blue Institute’s focus on connecting science-led marine conservation with sustainable economic development. It will also explore tailored programmes on AI for the Blue Economy, applying digital technologies to marine and coastal challenges.
Through this collaboration, UNU Macau and the Blue Institute aim to advance policy-relevant research and innovation that connects technology, marine conservation, and sustainable economic development, contributing to sustainable development at national, regional, and global levels.
