The United Nations University Institute in Macau (UNU Macau) announces two upcoming training camps this winter, the Macau Camp and the European Camp.
The UNU Digital Technology and Sustainable Development Talent Program (UNDSDP) is a training initiative by UNU Macau. The UNDSDP Camp is designed for young scholars currently enrolled in higher education institutions or in early career research positions.
This program aims to foster strategic vision and leadership potential among participants, enhance their research skills, and deepen their understanding of digital technologies and their role in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants will have the opportunity to engage in interactive sessions within the United Nations system, gain career development support, and build global competencies to prepare for impactful roles in international organizations.
Macau Camp - Technology and Sustainability in the Age of AI
Digital technologies are transforming every aspect of our lives, from work and education to health and social interactions. While these advancements offer unprecedented opportunities, they also pose challenges, such as ethical considerations, privacy concerns, and their impact on well-being. This training program focuses on equipping participants with foundational knowledge of AI, including its principles, applications, and its potential to address global challenges and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Target Audience:
- Undergraduate students (juniors and above)
- Graduate students (Master's or Ph.D. level)
- Individuals interested in the United Nations and sustainable development

European Camp - AI and Climate Action: Balancing Benefits and Risks
Artificial Intelligence (AI) holds transformative potential for combating climate change through improved modeling, optimized energy systems, and renewable energy innovations. However, its deployment also presents challenges, such as the environmental cost of training models, ethical concerns, and unequal access to AI solutions. This training program examines the balance between maximizing AI’s benefits for climate action and mitigating its risks, including its environmental and social impacts. The camp will be held across three UNU institutes in Macau SAR, the Netherlands, and Germany, offering a truly international learning experience.
Target Audience:
- Senior undergraduate and graduate students
- Individuals studying disciplines such as social sciences, computer science, education, international relations, or communications
- Those with an interest in the United Nations system and sustainable development
