Dr. Nimmi Rangaswamy Joins UNU Institute in Macau Advisory Board

Dr. Nimmi Rangaswamy has led many research projects analysing the impacts of AI and HCI through the lens of social science.

The international advisory board of the United Nations University Institute in Macau welcomes Nimmi Rangaswamy, Associate Professor at the Kohli Centre on Intelligent Systems, International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Hyderabad, as its member.

Nimmi Rangaswamy is an outstanding researcher and manager in academia and industry. Currently, she is also an Adjunct Professor in Indian Institute of Technology, IIT, Hyderabad. She has led many research projects at the national and international level, including analyzing the impacts of AI, HCI, and other frontier technology through the lens of social science. At the Kohli Centre on Intelligent Systems, IIIT Hyderabad, she focuses on the socio-economic impacts of work automation on the Indian off-shored IT industry. Dr. Rangaswamy previously worked in Microsoft Research Labs India, where she combined theoretical approaches with ethnographic field research methods to understand technology use in developing countries. Over the years, she has published many research papers at top tier conferences and peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Rangaswamy is a seasoned mentor having worked with students and professionals from different backgrounds. In addition to years of teaching experience, she had led a user-centric research team of designers, social scientists, and HCI professionals to design the future Xerox product for two years. She also trained and mentored research associates and interns across universities from India and abroad at Microsoft Research Labs India.

It is indeed incredible to be joining the UNU Institute in Macau board as an advisor. I am greatly honored to be part of an inspiring and distinguished team to catalyse global developmental initiatives.
